I’ve started this blog to promote and to record what I hope will become monthly rides to Philadelphia beer spots. This began as an idea in January, a New Years resolution of sorts.

On January 26th, 2008, about six of us rode in the cold from the Philadelphia Art Museum to Teresa’s Next Door Cafe in Wayne (route here). We had some lunch and some amazing beers. We had planned on just hopping on the regional rail line to get home, so as to allow more time to relax and drink. But when the train rolled up, the conductors decided to enforce the “2 bike per car” rule, and wouldn’t let us all on. Rather than split up, we decided to ride back. It was cold, we were tired, we were a shade past sober, but it ended up being a wonderful chilly ride regardless. There are some pictures here and here

Both the February and March rides were mostly a bust. Feb 23rd was a cold snowy day. Most everyone decided riding up to Iron Hill in Lansdale, as was the plan, was not the best idea. In the end, 2 of us rode a loop in Fairmount park and then had brunch at The Belgian Cafe. In March, the ride was cancelled. My wife, Lois was called in for her first birth as a Doula.

So here we are in April. Tomorrow, we will ride from the Art Museum to Iron Hill in Phoenixville. Our proposed route is here. If I can keep up with life, pics and a report will follow.

Stay tuned for more rides, warmer, longer, better. 2008, the Beer of the Bike.

Actually, we were willing to split up into “2 bikes per car” but the jerkass engineers insisted on “2 bikes on the whole train,” at which point we thanked them with our middle fingers and high-tailed it out of there.
