Sorry this is such a delayed recap!  It was a cold and long ride, but 6 of us made the trek out to Norristown.  Capone’s did not disappoint, as we were rewarded with an amazing beer list.  They were recovering from a special event the day before, and many of the special beers were still available.  Many of the them were new to me, including Allagash Les Deux Brasseurs, Boris the Crusher oatmeal imperial stout, Jolly Pumpkin La Parcela, Ottos Ottonator, and more.  Sadly the Ommegang Rougewas out.  The real problem of the day was that, even with sample flights, there were too many good beers on the menu.  This spot was definitely worth the ride out there!  Pics can be found here:  http://www.flickr.com/groups/beerofthebike/pool/

For our December ride, we might be having it on Jan 3rd due to the holidays.  The destination is still up in the air.  Any requests?

Our ride for this month is tomorrow.  Sorry the announcements this time around have been late, with the holidays I’ve been behind in my planning efforts.

We’ll be riding to Capone’s in Norristown.  It should be about 25 miles each way, with the majority of the trip on the Valley Forge trail.  We’ll be meeting at the Art Museum steps at 8:30am, to leave promptly at 9am.  Please let me know if you are planning on coming so that we don’t leave without you.

And hopefully they will have some nice treats leftover from their big event today!

Our ride this month is going to happen on Nov 29th, the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  Work off some of those extra calories, and then replace them with beer.  The plan is to ride out to Capone’s in Norristown.  I’ll post the details and route soon.  It should be about 25 miles each way, and we’ll try to get back before sunset.

Edit:  There isn’t really an email list or RSVP system.  But if you’d like to come, drop me a comment or email so that we don’t leave without you.

This is a bit delayed, but its taken me this long to get dry after this months ride.  There was 4 of us there to brave a terribly rainy and windy ride.  While only about 7 miles, the wind and rain fought to delay us, and it ended up taking about 45 minutes to ride from the Art Museum to Mt Airy.  Earth was gracious, despite some odd looks as we stood at the entrance ringing our clothes dry on their floor.  Thankfully, we were met there by some spouses (thanks Lois and Rose!) with cars, so we were all able to get rides home.  But our efforts were richly rewarded with some delicious, and sessionable, beers.  The service was a bit iffy, and would have loved to actually gotten my final glass of Biere d’Earth, but overall a good time was had by all.

Its November already, and plans are still up in the air for our post thanksgiving ride.  Any suggestions?

Its supposed to rain tomorrow, but that won’t stop us!  The plan is to leave the Art Museum at 4pm, so that we’ll get to Earth soon after it opens (4:30).  If we’re soaking wet, the beer (and flatbread) will taste that much better.  We’ll be taking something like this route.  Bring your helmets and your raincoats!

Here it is, October’s ride!  We’ll be riding on Saturday, Oct 25th, from the Art Museum steps to Earth Bread and Brewery in Mt Airy.  It will be a very easy ride, some small hills in Mt Airy, but mostly very flat.  Total round trip shouldn’t be more than 15 miles.  This is a ride for all skill levels and types of bikes.  And I hear that the beer there is top notch!  They have at least 4 house brews, plus several taps of other interesting beer.  And if you don’t get enough there, we can always pub crawl down the block to McMenamins.

So mark your calenders and tell your friends.  This will be a fun one!

This month’s ride is still up in the air.  The Biketoberfest is West Philly is still an option, though I found out that there is a $25 fee.  Another option, one that I’m excited for, is to ride out to Mt Airy to try out the new Earth Bread and Brewery (as reviewed by Joe Sixpack – check out the beer list!!).  We could also hit McMenamins and make it a two-fer.  Anyone care to chime in on which option you prefer?

So, no one showed up for the ride.  No worries on my part, I hope you all had as fun of a day as I did.  We’ll make up for it this month, I promise.  I spoke with Mike from Dock Street at the Oktoberfest, and he told me about a bike and beer fest/block party happening in West Philly on Oct 19th.  Sounds perfect to me.

It’ll be a short ride, but we’ll all need a break after our grueling non-ride to Victory.

Take note, its a Sunday, and its not the last weekend of the month.  I’ll post full details as I get them, but mark your calendars now!

The Victory ride is coming up.  It looks like there may be a little rain, but all in all, the forecast looks like its going to be a very autumn day.

We’re going to meet at the Art Museum at 8am, for a prompt departure at 8:30.  We will hopefully get there before the crowds and have a chance to eat (and drink) before the festivities begin.

I have a route in the works, I’ll post it up tomorrow or Thursday.

If you haven’t let me know you’re coming, please do soon.  Particularly if you’re planning on meeting us en route somewhere.  I don’t want to miss anyone!

I’ve been spending way too much time debating on what to do about this month’s ride. Its time to just make it happen. So here is the plans.

This month’s Beer of the Bike ride will be on Saturday, September 27th. We’ll be riding from the Art Museum to Victory Brewing company in Downingtown, PA.

There are, however, a couple catches to this months ride. The first, and most obvious, is that this will be a long one. Probably about 40 miles each way, with hills likely. For this reason, we’ll be planning the ride out there, but NOT necessarily the ride back. I’ve heard ideas about getting hotel rooms and spending the night, being met there for a car ride back, taking the train back, even camping out for the night. Of course, you can ride back too, making it close to a century day. But this will be up to you, the “group,” once we get to Victory will be split up so to speak.

There is also the possibility of driving to somewhere midway (Valley Forge Park) and meeting the group.  Let me know if you are interested in this option, and I’ll work on planning a midpoint meet up for those that want to only ride for half of the ride.

The other catch, both a good and bad one, is that this is the date of the Victory Fall Fest.  This means that it will be crowded, we may not get a private brewery tour, and we may not even sit down to eat.  But there will be music, fun times, and of course, beer.

Both of these catches also mean that we will be leaving early this time.  So don’t plan any wild parties the night before.

I’ll be working on the route and will have it posted before the ride gets here.  Please let me know if you’re planning on coming.
